A consultation with a Naturopath typically begins with a lengthy patient interview focusing on lifestyle, medical history (including family medical history), personal history, emotional tone and physical features. A physical examination and blood or urine analysis may also be required to discover the underlying cause and assist in establishing a wellness program.
Naturopaths do not undertake to diagnose or treat a disease but rather concentrate on the whole body wellness in order to facilitate the body healing itself. Lifestyle changes and approaches to support the body’s healing ability will be focused on. A naturopath will educate, empower and motivate a patient to adopt a healthy lifestyle, attitude and diet. A naturopath will not treat the symptoms of an illness or disease but rather search for the cause and treat that. Illness does not occur without cause. Underlying causes of disease must be discovered and removed or treated before a person can recover from an illness. Symptoms are only expressions of a body’s attempt to heal but not the cause of the disease. Causes can occur on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level.
Naturopathic health care is suitable chronic and acute health issues across all age groups and should always be used in conjunction with ongoing medical care where possible.
